I assume you have ruled outthe stock electronic
ignition . . . ?

The ignition from my 1st '81s went to my 1980 Scirocco
S (in 1993 when my 1st 81 S was killed), and finally
went into the '78 when the 1980 Scirocco S (white
bird) went to the rust bucket in the sky . . .
