Idle while a/c is on

I just got the A/c recharged and converted on my 86 8v.  When I turn on the 
A/C fan, the engine idle dips down from approx. 1000 rpm to the 800's. Is 
that normal?  I read the Bentley manual and it said the relay would only 
boost the idle if it fell below 750 rpm, but I'm still not sure.
Everything else about the sytem works fine.
