RE: Was stuck in 3rd gear



Has it been getting harder and harder to get into gear, or was it a sudden
problem?

I had a problem getting any gear which got worse over time, the cause: the
mounting point for the clutch cable on the firewall had failed. The clutch
cable mount was getting pulled little by little into the car making the
clutch harder and harder to disengage until it wouldn't at all. Might want
to check that.

Coincidentally, my scirocco stranded me at an intersection not 15 minutes 
ago on the way to work when I could not get it into gear.  When I finally 
was able to get it into second (after first trying to slam it into first and

breaking a knob off the radio and bruising the living shit out of my hand,) 
it first lurched hard, then whined and grinded and popped the rest of the 
way to the office.

How the hell am I going to get home???

has happened to me before.  shortly thereafter (a few months), it sounded
like I was popping popcorn in the transmission.  I pulled it and drained the
oil, it looked like silver paint...i cried, and cried, and cried...

heheheh.  you should get a transmission rebuild.
