Re: RE: sunroof issues

Disclaimer: This is MY experience from a 16v rocco. I have never seen what the 8v sunroofs are like, but I don't see why they would be any different.

You should definitely have the handle and the metal base that it screws into. The metal base is held onto the ceiling of the car by two screws. As for the sunroof itself: There is definitely a piece of board (carbdoard- maybe something else) that is covered in cloth which goes over (in between your head and the sunroof) the sunroof. It is held onto the sunroof by a simple spring, so that when you retract the sunroof, the board goes with it.

I have never assembled a sunroof, just dismantled. In fact, I just got done removing my sunroof, rails, board, spring etc. from my RIP 88 16v, so I have EVERYTHING. If you are interested in some of it, send me an email off list.

I'd love it if that were the case, but I"m pretty sure it's not, hope I'm
wrong. There is a body colored piece of sheet metal, and that's it.
Nothing more. Now, keep in mind I have NO idea what should be there, so
it's tough to phrase the questions in an easy to answer format. But there's
no handle to operate the thing, no nothing except a few mm thick piece of
sheet metal btw the inside and outside.

Sounds like you just need a headliner. No big deal there :-)
