I think it's generally acknowledged that CIS is good for about 170-180 HP.
Some of the 8V's used cast cranks. Right now I can't remember which ones. I
wouldn't do anything beyond NA with this setup.
If your engine has a forged crank then it's damn similar to the 1.8T 20V
engine. Forged crank, forged rods, cast pistons.
Normally aspirated the short block will take as much power as the engine can
make.
If you're going for a turbo, as long as you take care of fuel, ignition
timing and piston cooling (oil squirters) I'd think it would be good for
close to 300hp.
