o2 sensor wires

Just a quick one, while under the car, I noticed the tubing around the three
o2 sensor wires stops about 2" short of the sensor, leaving the three wires
looking very vulnerable. Is this normal? and if not, what should they be
wrapped in that will stand the heat/abuse, regular electrical tape? Thanks.
