How to tell ABA and 3A apart?

ok, I bought a 2.0l motor, and I dont know if it is an ABA or a 3A. where is 
the serial # on these? on the front of the montor (oil flange side) there is 
an audi marking along with the 2.0l stamp. there is also a stamp of a 
stylized "EB" along with an EJ code. what gives? tia
