Suspension ? longish

I know this subject's been floating around but I need to ask this from a
different angle. My primary concern is not the brand of the suspension, but
what it does.

My current suspension let's the car sit nice and low - some sort of Bilstein
Neuspeed combo. It takes corners like it's on rails. It takes bumps like
it's on rails too, that is to say, throw a penny on the track and it'll
derail this train. The small refelctors on the road are sharp jolts -
offsets in the pavement have me in fear of my frame and windshield - were
talking bumpstop and beyond here. Just this weekend the pin guide in the
sunroof (the one that makes the sunroof tilt) snapped in two after hitting
on of serveral very severe pavement offsets on a trip to Tahoe (4 hours on
bad pavement).

I'm afraid my baby won't put up with this much longer, SO, I'm willing to
sacrifice ride height (means going up) for quality. I think the car is
sitting about 2" down - no finger gap between the top of the tire and the
fenders. I'm not going back to stock, but there has to be something in
between that my low-riding stance that'll be easier on the car, 1"-1.5"?.

Suggestions for struts, springs? Progressive wound? (mine look very
unprogressive - or maybe they're just shot).

Thanks for any info you can pass along - I need to save my car from the
California roads.
