Help! Sunday Morning Problem!

Hi all,

Sunday Morning and my scirocco has issues!

Last night while driving home I was driving up a hill homewards and my
scirocco just stalled, It managed to roll onto the flat with the momentum it
had and when I turn the ignition back on the car idled fine at about 1100
revs, so I look at it for second waiting for it to just stall again and it
didn't. So I thought never mind and as I put my foot down to accelerate it
stalled again, I did this a few times and every time it stall as soon as I
revved it even a little bit. Eventually I figured that if a I revved it REAL
hard I could just keep it going, so I jolted and misfired all the way along
the road with the revs over 4000 all the way and just made it home.

This morning I turned the ignition on again and again it idled fine, and yet
again as soon as I put my foot on the accelerator it stalled. I did it a few
times, took the air filter off, put it back on again! and then after about 8
times of doing this it eventually it revved ok and that's where I am now..
but I'm worried that it may do it again at an even more inconvenient time.

If anyone can help me with a solution or ideas of what the problem maybe,
please help!

Its a GTII 1991 2E carb model
