Theres a few tricks.

Tire pressure:
Start out with 45psi if yoyur using street tires. Pump them up just
before you get to the event or bring along a cheapie electric tire pump.
($10 from Wall Mart. handy!)

Look closely at the front tire's after the first run. if the tires arent
rolling over too much (you dont want them to roll over past the tread
block. Thats the main reason for using so much tire pressure. Sidewall
regidity.) then bleed them down a pound or two. The rear's will probably
not need as much pressure. Start with 40psi.

Seat belt harness trick:
There is a way to use the stock seatbelt as a harness! Heres what you do;
Roll the drivers seat back (about 5 turns) Then pull your seatbelt so its
really tight, then give it a good yank so the innertia reel locks. Then
roll your seat back up until your chest is being firmly held in place. it
works and is actually really effective. It holds you in place so you can
censentrate more on driving and less on holding onto something. :)

the rest of the stuff is generic. Empty the spare tire and all the junk
you carry in the back. if you can, find a VW driver and ASK questions.
Most of us who autox are really friendly and are absolutely willing to
help you get fast, quickly!

Get there early enough to walk the course. Do the Novice walk! Walk the
course with an experienced driver.

Where ya racing at??
