Extremely bad fuel mileage

I just finished putting a new head gasket on my 79 roc
(1.6), while the head was off I got a valve job (the
head is a late model hydraulic)...And now Im lucky to
get 11 mpg, city driving. Anyone know what might be
the problem? what can i check?
