16V Fuba antenna ?

OK,...at the head unit where the antenna plugs into the radio....there is a
small wire that comes off the antenna wire.....I thought that it was a
remote ground wire,...but I was just told that because it was silver core
wire and not copper it shouldn't be a ground....anyone?
