valve stem oil seals

is it imperative that i change my valve stem oil seals while i'm doing my head gasket?...i was thinking of skipping this part...

if i do end up changing them though, will i need a valve spring compressor or can i get by without?...i hope to finish this week and don't really have time to get ahold of one so i was just going to skip doing them...but if i can do them without, i'll go ahead with it...

also, my head gasket kit came with two o-rings and i'm now sure where they go...one is black and about 1 1/4" and the other is green and about 1 1/2" ...any idea where these go?
