Re: Scirocco v. 944 (was: an intersting statement in the ClubH2O newsletter)



To settle this once and for all. :)

The 16v was *much* faster in acceleration than the 8V 944 (about 1s to 
60).  The 16V 944 was significantly quicker than the 8v, but probably would 
have had a hard time keeping up, at least to 60.  I believe both 944s had 
slightly higher top speeds than the 16V Scirocco.

Both cars had similar maximum grip (about 0.80g), but the 944 was faster in 
the slalom and more tossable.

The 944 Turbo is another story entirely in terms of speed.  No comparison.

And, by the way, the report was that the 8V Scirocco could out handle a 
Ferrari 348 in the slalom.  Pretty sad for that Ferrari, cause the 16V was 
2mph faster in the Slalom than the 8V was, and the 16V JETTA was 2mph 
faster than even the 16V Scirocco -- which means that a Jetta was (at 
least) 6mph faster in a slalom than a Ferrari.  Whoa.
