Re: Rims and rubber

My speedo is off 3 mph, checked via GPS and pacing a 2000 Passat for 5 miles.
No rubbing with a 205, but I can assure you that you cannot fit more than one
.25 cent piece width at full lock between the tire and rear/front fender
well. My acceleration did suffer slightly. Im running a for the most part
stock suspension setup...the boges are softer than the stock struts that I
had on there and and the only adverse ride is sensitivity to road texture and
the bump severity due to 40 series rubber. I have never rubbed hitting some
nasty bumps or anything on the street. As a street tire and rim package 17's
are fine if you can handle the road texture and dodging potholes from time to
time. People say the TSWs are soft but I have hit some nasty stuff and no
bends. Im not real happy with the finish on the rims though.
As for autocrossing I would totally agree with randy....17's on a MK2 would
be a very poor choice...go to a 16'. There are the ultimate blend of
performance and style. I havnt had a chance yet this year to autox on these
rims an tires and if I do Ill probably slap my teardrops back on.

Rims and tires are like women....once they go big they wont go back LOL.....
