HELP:Car revs to 5500RPM then dies

Ok, the car is a '84 8v with a 2.0engine knock sensor equipped.  It will rev 
to 5500 rpm then "cut-off" the tach will drop to 0 rpm and you have to 
restart the engine.  What could this be? COIL?
