Shannon,

The only control I see to the flap (in the intake scoop thingie under the
battery) is the one white vacuum line.

How can one vacuum line 'know' whether the engine is cold or warm?  As the
engine pulls more vacuum (i.e. higher RPM), this line feeds vacuum to the flap
in the intake scoop thingie.  The flap then does something (opens or closes or
something).  Where does 'knowledge' of engine temperature come into play here?
