I hear that the ratio on the PS rack is the same as the Quaife sport rack
for manual A1's.
I drove Fiorita's '89 GTI 16V with a drained PS rack and it was tougher
than regular manual steering.

I still have the PS rack from my RIP '87 16V Scirocco. I was thinking of
draining and plugging it, and using it in my Scirocco, 
but I found a clean manual rack that I'm using instead. I would sell it
for $50, the one bellows is ripped, but the rack doesn't leak or
anything.
 
If you turn it just right, the whole rack fits through the same hole,
that the tie rod goes through on the passenger side.
