RE: Help!!!! water pump pulley removal



I did the same thing it sounds like you did.  If you follow the Bentley, it
doesn't say anything about removing the pulley.  I was completely surprised
when I picked up the replacement pump and the pulley wasn't there.  Anyway,
I was able to get the bolts off with some Liquid Wrench, a set of Allen head
sockets, and the pulley shoved between my knees.  Remember to use torque and
not pressure when removing them (more of snap, less of a push).

BTW, if you think the water pump belt was a bitch to get off, wait till you
get to put it back on.  I also suggest replacing the lower hoses that
connect the pump to the oil cooler and block.  They're cheap and you've
already done all this dismantling.  If those things die on you later, you
get to go through the whole routine again.  Might as well take the time now.

On the 16v Scirocco, how the F#$% are you supposed to remove those 3 allen
bolts on the W/P pulley!?!?!?!?!?
