starter solenoid?

    i'm thinking that my starter is beginning to die, however i was told
that it might be my starter solenoid. a couple days ago when i tried
starting my car i got a "buzzing" sound. i waited, tried again, and got
the "stripped" sound that dying starters make. tried again and the car
started right up. about an hour later it did the dying starter thing
again. since then i've had no problem. does this sound like the
solenoid? if so, can this piece be replaced without having to replace
the whole starter? thanx.
