Subject: Playing in the snow... :)

Almost bit it bad this morning in the Mercedes. Snowy roads, bald rear
tires and I went out to play in the snow for 1.5 hours. What else would
you expect?!

Was fun, no disasters, but I did see other people playing in the snow,
including a chick in a blue Sentra doing donuts in a cul-de-sac.

Afterwards, I ran some errands and was on the way to the office. Crest the
top of a huge hill and look down the other side. Skidmarks into a curb,
and then the jittery, jagged marks in the snow showing that ABS was doing
all it could. I say "uh oh, more slippery than I thought". I am going
walking speed at this point.

Hit the brakes, ABS engages immediately. I'm picking up speed in a big way
as I head toward the bottom of the hill, which is a 2-lane relatively
high-traffic road perpendicular to the road I'm sliding down. I pitch the
car at a 90' angle so when I slide through the intersection, I get hit from
front or back to minimize my chance of injury.

Sliding, sliding, totally sideways. ABS pump is roaring. (Well, as much as
an electric pump roars, but I have to be dramatic here. I was a little bit
scared SHITLESS). :)

I spot a blue Sentra coming down the hill. Sentra stops right before the
intersection, PARKS THE CAR SIDEWAYS IN THE ROAD and blocks the road. I
slide out sideways, coming to a stop about 1/3 into the road. Sentra
waves, I flash lights, wave back, and blow a kiss.

(For the record, the road was clear; no one else was coming... but in case,
they would have seen the Sentra sideways and stopped; this road was
relatively clear of snow).

But guess what? It's the same chick who was doing donuts in the cul de sac
a few hours earlier. Proves my theory that people who go out and play in
the snow in their cars are more attentive drivers.

Woohoo!
Jason
