I always cleaned mine whenever there wasn't any 'pink' left on it.... this
equated to about 10k miles or so in my Corrado.  Note that this was an open
element 'peeslow' without a heat sheild.  On my Jetta with the k&n drop in,
it was still clean and pink after about 10k when I switched to an open
element filter.  I've used only their cleaner kit to wash and oil my
filters, I don't know the impact of using something else.  Hope this helps

What is the general consensus on the care and cleaning of the K & N air
filter?  How many miles in between cleanings?  Does the filter even work if
you don't use the special spray after its been cleaned?  Can it be cleaned
with merely soap and water?
