 I  am probably one of the closest living in Mpls area . Its about a 2.5 hour 
drive . 

If you dont make it down to the "cities" no biggie cause Duluth and the north 
shore in general is one of the most beautiful areas in the midwest for sure . 
You can also head up to Canada for a nice drive along lake Superior if you 
have a car . All in all a very nice place to visit .
