A polite letter from a lawyer usually does the trick.  If you know any
they'll probably do it as a favor.  Don't threaten, just inquire firmly.
It's the letterhead that does it.

It helps to provide an option the seller can take, like paying it back in
installments.  So if the guy doesn't have the money he won't just ignore
it.  You have to provide a workable option.  Most people will take the
option to get out of trouble if it's there for them to take.

The desire to bang his head off the hood is understandable; but getting
your money back is the real goal.
