'81 1.7L, mono
'82 1.7L, mono
'83 1.8L, mono
'84 1.8L, dual
'85 1.8L, dual
'86 1.8L, JH or PL, dual
'87 1.8L, JH or PL, dual
'88 1.8L PL, I've never seen an 8 valve '88 Scirocco, dual

The engine code is right below the no.4 sparkplug, stamped into the
block.

Btw, I don't think H means 1.7L...
I'm not sure what it means, though.
