Presumably the base spec engine is the 2.5 TDI that's in the audis.  Looking at the picture, it looks like there is an awful lot of room, considering there's 5 cylinders in there.  Either the MK4 engine bay is pretty wide or the construction of the engine/transmission is different from the traditional I5 setup - maybe the tranny is shorter.

The question is "what did that motor come out of?"

Check out the wheels on the Golf IV R--- 8.2x19" Magnesium! that's prolly 
more expensive than the uGLI!
