It's not simply taking off the weight ring, it's having the wheel
rebalanced, preferably with the pressure plate attached, that's the
problem for a DIY job.  It's so simple to take off the weight ring,
my machine shop didn't even charge me for it, but it added like $25-$30
to my full engine balancing bill of $180.  If you want to lighten one
yourself, remove the whole weight ring, that's what Velocity does also.
