RE: My car keeps dying......

<x-charset iso-8859-1>if you press the brake quickly you can get a pump effect
it will allow more air into the mixture.
it has done this on EVERY watercooled volkswagen I have
owned.. 12 now I think.

Hmmmm....Sounds like you could have a vacuum leak combined with the idle
speed not adjusted properly. Pushing on the brakes might be reducing the
effect of the vacuum leak. I might be way out on a limb on this one, but I
can't think of another reason pushing the brakes would improve idling unless
the booster moves and plugs a leak or something. Does your car seem like
it's not up to full power? That's another sign of a vacuum problem.

I don't know about the A2 throttle body. The screw could be the problem if
the ring around it is leaking. Of course you said the problem occurred
before you changed the TB. Hmmm...does the idle smooth out while you're
decelerating with your foot on the brake, or once you've come to a complete
stop and your foot is on the brake?

Tough one!

Okay........

My car keeps dying when I either have my foot on the clutch, or I have it
in neutral. Once I flip it into neutral, the idle starts dipping
drastically. If I am going at slow speeds, it will die. If I press the
brakes, the idle speed stops dropping, and levels out. It is getting rather
frustrating. This has been going on for months now, and periodically get
worse.

Also, I keep having problems starting the car for the first time in the
day. It won't catch, until about the tenth time trying, and that is with
gas. I just had a problem with the wires to/from my fuel pump relay, but
that got fixed (Thanks Andre'). Now, I notice that along with the starting
issue, I sometimes don't hear my fuel pump buzz. Any ideas?

Also, I just put an A2 Throttle Body on my car (after a few
modifications), I didn't adjust the screw before I put it on, and unlike my
stock idle screw, the A2's screw is covered, and hard to reach. Anyone
messed with these before?

Thanks...Hope someone can throw me a suggestion or two......
