I'm pretty sure that Pete is correct, only as far as the USA is
concerned that is.  The USA got them up until 88, some left over 88's
were sold as 89's. Canada got them up until 89, while lucky Europe
got them until 1992.  Parts shouldn't really be an issue, as all the A1's
shared quite a few parts and the US could buy a brand new A1 chassis
up until 1992...the Cabriolet. :)
