I've been through this. There are VERY expensive ways to have the autotranny
problem fixed on 16V Passats(some company in Ohio or something fixes em
right). I didnt' think it was worth it. My advice - Don't buy an automatic
passat. I had receipts showing my car's tranny rebuilt at 60k miles at a
cost of $3200!!!!!!!!! It was completely dead again at 102k. I then put
in a used tranny with 66k miles and it was shifting horribly. That's why I
got rid of the car. Pulling the motor/tranny twice in a month sucked donkey
balls and I had no intention of doing it again soon. If it had been a 5speed
I'd still have the car without a doubt. I did like it otherwise. HTH!
