RE: What would happen if....

One method of identifying your head type: check your VIN number in the
engine compartment. If your car was made from august '83 onwards (i.e.
model year '84), it should be in the format WVWZZZ53Z?Knnnnnn, where ? is
the model year code and 'nnnnnn' is effectively the chassis number. The
important bit is the year code, which start at 'E' for '84 and run through
to 'N', skipping 'I'.
Hydraulic heads were fitted to year code 'J' cars (model year '88) &
onwards. The fact that your head originally had a 'J' code cam suggests that
it's solid lifters - there don't appear to be 'J' code cams for hydraulic
heads although there are 'G' code cams for both solid & hydraulic.

Let's just say that for some reason someone put a G-grind solid lifter
cam in a hydrolic lifter engine?
and how would you be able to tell?
Reason being: i had my mechanic put in a bunch o stuff:cat. dual exhasut
manifold/downpipe, and a g-grind, i toldhim to verify solid lifters before
he put it in, today i wenmt to have a cv boot replaced, and somehow it cam
up that he was like, oh yeah you had a hydrolic lifter engine, i was like:
are you sure? he said well, i couldn't see any place where shims could be
taken from so yeah he thinks it's hydrolic. My car still runs very well,
still gets over 30 mpg, still pulls fine, any thoughts from anyone?
thanks,
