Ive had a Pretronix unit in my "79 for years and have never had a problem
with it.  On of the best items I've picked up for the car.  Definately worth
the 70 -80 bucks.
   Also you might want to check ther ignition timing , maybe the distributor
nut loosend up.  Might want to check your dwell as well.
