Cleaning Engine Bay

What should I use to clean out my engine bay?  I finally got everything out
from the e-bay and now all I see is literally 1 inch of grease evrywhere
from the previous undercoatings.  I was told that a little bit of diesel
and a brush will do the job.  Is this okay or is there something else?
