RE: Clutch..

i've removed the tranny twice already, it's not that hard, just time
consuming if you don't have the right tools. you'll definitely need a
socket wrench with some different length extensions to get the big bolts
that hold the tranny to the block off. you'll also need a 12-point 10mm
socket or box-end wrench to get the flywheel off. it must be a
12-point, not the normal 6-point hexagon one. oh, do NOT push up on the
clutch lever after you disconnect the cable. i made this mistake when i
was trying to lift the tranny out. i used my foot on the lever to push
the rear of the tranny up. then the push rod got jammed against the
clutch "push-thingy" and it took me an hour to get the thing off. one
other hint. the first thing you should do is unplug EVERYthing from the
tranny (reverse light switch, speedo cable, clutch cable, linkages).
when you remove the rear tranny mount, remove the two 17mm bolts that
hold the brace to the underside of the car and remove the 3 15mm bolts
that hold it to the tranny and take the entire thing off. it also helps
to take out the battery and remove the air box (just tie the fuel
distributor up and out of the way) so you can have a better look-see at
what's goin' on. be sure to get a clutch centering tool, or just have a
really good eye (like me o-}> ). working at a leisurely pace, (with
cigarette breaks and coffee....) i got it off in 3 hours (that's
including the 1 hour i wasted from the pushrod jamming thing). i'm sure
someone else could do it faster. for a clutch replace, i'd say just set
aside an entire day and you'll have no problems.
