unconnected vaccuum hose

i hope i can explain this well enough so that someone can help...i have
a unconnected vaccuum hose on my 84 karmann and can't figure out where
it goes... there is a long hose that runs in front of the throttle body
that comes to a Y at the passengers side and connects to 2 small
doohickies that i assume kick up the idle for the a/c.. 
  on the other end it connects to a 4way valve, one hose goes up and
connects to the black accordion air intake thing... another goes into
the drivers side fender...
  the 4th goes down and has  a couple of curves but isn't connected to
anything...
  any ideas as to where this should go?
