RE: saab 16v distributor on a rocco

I thought that the cis-e used on the 16v scirocco had computer controlled
timing! If it does have computer controlled timing, then I would think that
the distributor would 
A. do nothing but look pretty
B. not even work

me and paully met this guy yesterday with a 2.0 16v conversion in his
rocco. It's running the 16v scirocco cis-e setup, but he has a
distributor off a 16v Saab 9000. The distributor sticks out at least 3
inches more than the regular vw one, he said it has a more aggressive
advance curve and has more room for adjustment or something ... he
didn't really know. Has any one heard of this mod?
