Oil Sumps or coolers? Mounting and *&$!@#@! SAE fittings.

Ok, anyone out there using an Oil sump or an Oil Cooler?  How did you mount
it, where did you mount it and why, and how the hell did you get around
all this shitty SAE mounting crap?!

As I recall a lot of guys used to use some damn Porsche thermostatic
oil plate, but I can't recall from which car.  I recall it bolted right up,
and the line ports were then easily accessable.  Any help here?
