race engine building books,sites?

i was wondering if anyone knows some good resources for building race engines,
understanding power curves,toque,fuel & ignition tuning,etc..
I have had my day with bolt ons and really wanna build an extreme race engine
but yet suitable for street but have the power where I want it ..
