fuel pump question

Quickie question gang:

Will the main fuel pump for an '86 Scirocco 16v work ok in a stock '81
Scirocco?  A friend of mine has decided he wants my maroon '81 - but
the fuel pump is dead.  (It's been sitting since October)  I've got a
pump that was removed from my ex-16v and was hoping it would work... 
yes/no???

Side note:  STILL have a rust free '81 Scirocco S for sale...  I NEED
THE SPACE!
