Re: aaaarrrgh! Karma strikes again!

First, determine where the leak is. If it's actually leaking out of your water
pump itself, then the water pump is bad. If it's leaking out from in between
the water pump and the housing, then you need a new seal. There are two
different methods, that I know of, of removing the water pump. Method one is to
take the A/C compressor off, and get underneath to the three 13mm bolts that
hold the housing onto the block. You then have to disconnect the one remaining
10mm(?) bolt that holds the water pump to the timing belt cover. You then take
the whole assembly out (after draining the system and disconnecting the hoses,
of course). Then you have to take out the 10mm bolts that hold the water pump
housing to the water pump. Be careful- they may break, and actually, often do.
It's a bit of a PITA to get them out after this, but it can be done. Worse
comes to worse, you need a new water pump housing. Anyway, clean up the sealing
surfaces and put in a new gasket. Then tighten the bolts down lightly- not too
tight.
The other method of removing the water pump does not require removing the A/C
compressor or the power steering (if you have power steering) pump. Take off
the timing belt covers, and you can remove those 10mm bolts that hold the water
pump and the housing together, and then take the water pump out without ever
actually taking the housing off the block. Either method is a bit of a PITA. In
a non-A/C car, it's easy.
Good luck diagnosing the problem!
