Re: Oil Filter

Took this from Jan's page (http://www-pal.usc.edu/~jan/cars.html)

"VW OEM filters also incorporate something called an "anti-backflow" valve
that traps half a quart or so of oil upon shut-down, releasing this oil upon
startup. When oil pressure drop to near zero, this valve closes, and when
oil pressure rise up above perhaps 5 psi then the valve opens. FRAM oil
filters do not have this feature, and others are also lacking. If you go
for one of the aftermarket oil filtering systems, ask about this feature.
Whatever you do, when changing your oil and filter, fill your oil filter
with fresh oil before screwing it back on (on VW make sure that you don't
quite top it off as you will spill oil all over you - trust me on this, the
filter screws in at a slight angle plus the spinning motion will spill the
oil also). This will compensate for that half-quart that would normally be
trapped upon shut down by the anti-backflow valve."
