Uh, oh -- nasty knocking sound...

OK, so I had a slight hum yesterday morning up front which I attributed
to worn out wheel bearings, but now after driving about 60km since then
this hum has turned into a very pronounced rotational knocking sound
that seems to get worse when I turn right. As well the whole steering
column shakes quite noticably. Any ideas as to the cause of this racket?
