exploding oil coolers...help

hey ya'll, a friend of mine with a 8V rocco had the oil coller blow off
on him yesterday.  he managed to screw the unit back on, from what i
understand, but it still leaks oil thru some large hole somewhere in the
vicinity.

	anyways, i was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem in
the past.  the car was working well with no hints of impending
destruction...just a big ol' pile of smoke behind him while driving on
the highway.

	could this be some kind of clogging in the oil lines or something?  any
and all help appreciated.
