I can answer some of this...
R&T reviewed the '83 Scirocco sometime in late '82 or mid '83. If you're
talking about the 16v, R&T did a review of it in late '86, I think. They loved
it.
Robert Bentley manuals are the official factory manuals, and the only way to
go. You can find them many places, including amazon.com, www.rb.com, and maybe
through our list vendors (www.parts4vws.com and www.germanautoparts.com).
