Well, how about this one, by way of a member of the Scirocco Club ( SF Bay
Area )-

There is this cable covering you can get, it is an anti-abrasive covering,
looks like braided rope or netting, it slips over a wire, cable or bundle
thereof. You slip this over the exposed shaft and ta da! Shlinky.

The other idea would be to slip some heat shrink tubing, a size just large
enough to fit, and then snug it down with a bit of hi temp.

Might not want to cut, but hey- It's your car.
