RE: good deal or not?

I felt that I got a pretty good deal on mine, and you can use it as a
baseline, though I just posted a similar question to the list regarding a
really beat-up 87 16v, so what do I know???

Anyway, I paid $3000 for an 88 16v that sounds the same except for:
125,000 miles
no sun roof
vinyl/cloth seats (did they make "partial" leather seats? these might be the
same as mine...)
no euro stuff
stock stereo

OK. Here's the logic:
Euro headlights are a couple-hundred bucks, and I've seen bumpers for about
$650 or so, so those *could* be worth $1000, especially by the time you
paint the bumpers. I'm not sure what constitutes a euro exhaust, but the
stock one on a 16v is pretty darn good. If the stereo system is worth at
least $500 and the car really only has 70k miles...we *could* be talking
$5500 if you took my car and did all that to it. Though in reality that may
not be appropriate. If I were the owner, I might ask that much, tho. Maybe
you could offer $4500 and see what happens...?

Sounds like a nice, well-cared for car. I do love my 88!

FYI, Blue Book (www.kbb.com) had my car at ~$3800.

Good Luck!
Neal
