MK1 Sunroof Repair- Help

Do you have the "rag" top or the metal pop-up (like my '81)???

I need to repair my sunroof soon before the winter rains begin and was
wondering if anyone knows the caveats in doing such a "rebuild" on the
MK1.
 
Bentley says that the 1980 Scirocco (that's me folks) uses a cable frame
assembly in lieu of a free cable. Perhaps I can get that at the local VW
dealer still( $$). I also must replace all the
seals/gaskets/weatherstrip...
 
Any ideas from those who have walked before me?
