Swedish Mk1 Project...



Hello all Sciroccolist members!

Iīm new on the list. I thought i would say hi to all of you and give you som info about me & my Mk1 project. I have a -80 Mk1 that i bought in -91 totaly rustfree. Itīs extremely rare in Sweden whit "no rustcars", nowadays theres aprox.1000 Mk1īs left, most of them really rusty. On the Mk2 side thereīs only 179 cars in Sweden. ( small country eh? )
Since 1985 i have owned a total amount of 13 Mk1īs and 1 Mk2. As i mentioned this last project started up in -91 when i thougt that a real good paintjob and a Turboconverted engine would be it, planning to be driveable summer -91. 5 years later and $25000 later i drove it...( OEM-parts are NOT cheap in Sweden...) The only parts that remained from the original car was the body whit doors and rear axle. The rest was new. Felt good having NOS bumpers front /rear, NOS  windows(tinted), NOS rubber, NOS lights around,  autotechbushings, new control arms, brakelines, NOS Scirocco 16V brakes f/r, bearings, yellow Koniīs, Momo seat and a lot more. The engine became a totaly rebuilded and counterweighted 1,7l. Forged Audi turbo pistons, HD connection rods, sodiumfilled exhaust valves, new intake valves, bearings etc. In europe we had a really good turbokit from a company called BLT, one of those were attached. It contained a IHI RHB52, special made exhaustmanifold, IC, fuelinjector for extrafuel during boost, 2,5" exhaustsystem and some more small pieces. The result at 0,8 bar were 160BHp / 225 Nm. A Mk1 whit 160 BHp are fast......drove it @7000 rpm on fifth ( 230 km/h ) no problems exept BIG smile in face for a week. In this shape the car joined the "The Scirocco comes home" meeting in Osnabrück ( The town of Karman ) 1997. After this "treffe" i sold the engine and are now going to insert a G60 engine instead. It stands on the floor beside my car, havnīt decided werther to use the "FF" tranny, or the stock 02A cableshift tranny yet....Itīs not just "switch" tranny to cableshift, new mounts are needed, as well as modifications on clutchsystem. The G60 engine will be modified according to TECīs specs. on their 253BHp@6350 rpm and 335Nm@3900 rpm engine. Expensive, yes but since one started whit turbocharged and g-charged engines you cant stop, just have more....
