reverse light/tranny swap

hi...i'm mating up an 83 8v gti tranny to a 16v engine..but it has the
newer style reverse light switch (black plastic with several plastic pins
in it)...but the car it is goin into has the older style switch set up (2
prongs on a swithc that screwed into the transmission)..has anyone dealt
with this type of conversion?.....is it as simmple as snaggin the switch
that goes to the new tranny and connecting the correct wires?

any help would be appreciated..
