     I've always thought the back ends were different besides the obvious
rear wing difference.  I have both a  '83 and a '87 hatch in my parents
garage way up north in cheeseland and the '87,as I recall, is about a half
inch or more wider than the '83.  The '83 seems a little rounder too....but
this is all from memory so correct me if necessary.
